What is CLAT Exam 2026?

The Common Law Admission Test is a law entrance exam. It is conducted for admission to 5-year integrated LLB (UG) and one-year LLM (PG) courses. The exam is held for admission to 24 NLUs for UG courses and 21 NLUs for PG courses.

Based on CLAT scores, the admissions are offered by NLUs. Apart from the NLUs in India:

  1. 61 other private affiliate colleges accept CLAT exam scores. Check here complete list.
  2. Some public organizations such as ONGC and BHEL use CLAT-PG scores for recruitment. 

CLAT is conducted for admissions to law courses offered by 24 NLUs in India. Therefore, candidates must know the key elements of the exam as given in the table below:

How to fill CLAT 2026 Application Form?

Registration - The candidate can register by entering their name, mobile number, and email id. Also, select and confirm a password for the newly created applicant account. 

Login - Log in to access the application form.  

Select the program of study - After logging in, the first thing is to select the program of study 5-year LLB or one-year LLB

Fill the form - There are different fields like personal information, communication details, qualifying examination status, exam centre preferences (THREE centres can be selected in the order of preference), and reservation. All fields need to be filled. Check what all documents should to be uploaded in the prescribed specification (refer to the table below).

Submit the form - Once the details are duly filled, agree to the declaration, give consent and submit the form.    

CLAT NLU Preference List 2026:

Students must note that from CLAT 2026 onwards it is mandatory to give their preferences to NLUs while submitting their CLAT 2026 Application Form. students must select their preferences carefully, as the consortium will only consider those NLUs that have been mentioned in the preference list.

Pay the application fee - In the last step, pay the application fee (which is category-specific) in online mode using credit or debit cards, or net banking. Note that in addition to the exam fee, Students will have to pay an additional INR 500 if they want to opt for previous years' question papers.

CLAT 2026 Application Form Correction

The Consortium will give chance to Students to make changes in the already submitted CLAT Application Form 2026. For this, the CLAT Application Correction Window 2026 will be opened. Students can make changes in the already submitted CLAT 2026 Application Form by visiting the official website. Students will be given the option to make changes to CLAT Test Centre preferences too. While preparing for CLAT, candidates are advised to have a plan in mind. Read further to know more:

Section-wise CLAT preparation tips for UG courses:

  1. CLAT preparation tips for English Section - The difficulty level of questions in this section is the same as that of Class 12 English. 
  2. CLAT preparation tips for Current Affairs including GK - To prepare for GK and Current Affairs section of CLAT, candidates must keep track of all the latest news and events regularly by reading newspapers and magazines such as The Chronicles and Outlook India.   3. CLAT preparation tips for Legal Reasoning - To prepare for CLAT Legal Reasoning section, candidates must improve reading and analytical skills by reading newspapers and blogs related to static and current legal issues. You can also read newspaper and magazine columns by some of the prominent lawyers of India. Practice a Legal Reasoning passage daily. While practising, do not let your biases or previous knowledge of the law affect your answer. Remember that the answer to the question is present in the given passage only. 
  4. CLAT preparation tips for Logical Reasoning - Few important topics to prepare for the CLAT logical reasoning section include Relationships, Analogies, Logical Sequences, and Arguments. Learning shortcuts to solve Logical Reasoning questions can prove extremely helpful. While attempting the passage, identify the premises and sets of arguments first. Practise at least one passage of Logical Reasoning daily. 
  5. CLAT preparation tips for Quantitative Techniques - The difficulty level of questions in the CLAT 2026 Quantitative Techniques section is the same as that of Class 10 Maths. To ace the section, it is important to have conceptual clarity of all the topics of the Class 10 Maths syllabus. Important topics to prepare for the section are Basic Algebra, Ratios and Proportions, Mensuration and Statistics. Learning shortcuts to solve questions can prove helpful in this section as well.

CLAT PG 2026 Preparation Tips 

In the CLAT PG exam 2026, questions will be asked from Law subjects that are taught at the graduation level. Given below are important CLAT preparation tips for PG courses:

  • Know the CLAT syllabus and exam pattern for LLM well 
  • Read and refresh your knowledge of important judgments
  • Gain complete knowledge of important constitutional and legislative provisions
  • Practice essay writing with a clear presentation of issues, facts, arguments, and conclusions

CLAT 2026 Mock Test

The Consortium will share online mock tests for CLAT 2026 UG and PG exams one month before the exam. They will activate the links of online CLAT mock tests/ sample papers for CLAT 2026 on their official website, i.e. consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Check out some points that were advised to candidates while attempting CLAT 2026 mock tests:

  • Enroll in a good online mock test series
  • Practice at least one mock test everyday along with one previous year CLAT question paper or sample paper
  • Be wary of the time while attempting the CLAT mock test. Although there is no sectional time limit, it is advised that you allot fixed time to each section to ensure efficient use of the total two hours for the exam
  • After attempting each mock test, note down your weak and strong areas for the exam and work on them accordingly
  • After attempting at least five mock tests, sample papers and question papers try to analyse the important topics from which most questions have been asked in the paper. Focus on the important topics more.

 

CLAT 2026 Syllabus

Students who are planning to appear must refer to the CLAT syllabus. It must be noted that the syllabus is published by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). The Commission released the syllabus of CLAT UG 2026, CLAT LLM 2026 along with the exam pattern. CLAT 2026 Syllabus PDF is made available for download on the official website. The CLAT question papers are set strictly based on the syllabus given by the consortium. CLAT Question Paper 2026 will carry different sections like GK, Mathematics, English, Legal & Logical Reasoning section. The UG CLAT syllabus and PG CLAT syllabus are completely different

Answer Key

The exam authority will publish the CLAT Answer Key 2026 in two steps. Firstly Provisional Answer Key and then Final Answer Key. Students who appeared for CLAT Exam can download the official Answer Key PDF Online by visiting the official website of Consortium; i.e. consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The answer key mentions the correct options against each question asked in the question paper. Moreover, the exam authority will also ask students to verify their responses with answer key, and raise objections in case of discrepancies.

Once the Consortium receives the objections, it will release the final one. Based on this, the result will be announced.

How to Raise Objections on CLAT Answer Key 2026?

students can raise objections against the questions/answers with which they are not satisfied on the official website. Check out the quick steps below:  

  • Go to  the official website - consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
  • Login using registered mobile number and password.
  • Click on the Submit Objections button
  • Select the type of objection (1) About the question or (2) About the answer key.
  • Enter objection details.
  • Click on submit button.
  • Click on the Make Payment button to make a payment of INR 1,000 per question.
