APSC Examination Overview:
The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) conducts examinations to recruit candidates for various civil services and administrative posts under the Government of Assam. This includes positions in Assam Administrative Service, Assam Police Service, Finance Service, Education Service, and other state-level departments. APSC exams provide an excellent opportunity for candidates to serve the state in policy-making, administration, and law enforcement roles. The selection process generally includes a Preliminary exam, Mains exam, and Personal Interview, designed to evaluate knowledge, analytical skills, and overall personality.
Eligibility Criteria for APSC Examination:
To appear for APSC exams, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen. Some posts may require domicile in Assam.
- Age Limit:
- Generally, 21–38 years depending on the post.
- Relaxation is provided for OBC, SC/ST, and other reserved categories as per government norms.
- Educational Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is required for most posts.
- Certain specialized positions may require specific degrees or professional qualifications.
- Other Requirements:
- Candidates must meet medical and physical standards where applicable.
- A clear service record is needed for existing government employees applying through APSC.
APSC Syllabus:
The APSC exam is divided into Prelims, Mains, and Interview, each focusing on different skills:
- Preliminary Examination:
- General Studies (History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science & Technology)
- Current Affairs and Assam-specific knowledge
- Aptitude & Reasoning (for some posts)
- Mains Examination:
- Essay Writing
- General Studies Papers I–IV: Indian Constitution, Governance, Socio-Economic Issues, Assam-specific topics
- Optional Subject Papers: Candidates can choose a subject from a wide list, including Literature, History, Geography, and Political Science
- Interview / Personality Test:
- Evaluates communication skills, leadership, decision-making ability, and ethical values.
Important Dates & Notifications:
APSC publishes notifications and schedules on its official website, and dates vary by exam:
- Notification Release: Usually between March and May, depending on the post.
- Application Window: Open for 3–4 weeks after the notification.
- Preliminary Examination: Conducted around June–July.
- Mains Examination: Held 3–4 months after prelims.
- Interview/Personality Test: Conducted a few months after mains results.
- Final Merit List: Published after completion of all stages.
